Updates to the Microbiome Core

The Microbiome Core is housed in the Medical Science Research Building I (MSRB-I).  They offer services and resources to microbiome researchers from across campus and beyond. Please use the MiCores website when you are ready to submit samples.

The University of Michigan's Microbiome Core has a few recent changes and some expanded services:

  1. We have implemented the iLab software known within U-M as MiCORES.  You can also use MiCores to track progress on projects that are underway and to see estimated prices for all services.
  2. Our current services are described on the Microbiome Core website. In addition to 16S surveys and microbial genome sequencing, we will soon be introducing the capacity to survey fungi using the ITS region and to capture a broader diversity of Archaea using 16S primers developed for the Earth Microbiome Project.   Pricing for the microbial surveys is competitive – typically between $20-$30/sample depending on the number of samples being submitted.
  3. Chris Blair has stepped up to manager of the Microbiome Core.  He is joined by Christina Cartaciano and our most recent hire, Ruqaiya Siddiqui.  Clarisse Betancourt has moved on to a position as a field application scientist at Illumina.
  4. Tom Schmidt (schmidti@umich.edu) is  the new director of  the Microbiome Core and welcomes your input.

If you have questions or would like to discuss a project, please email microbiomecore@umich.edu.
